Popularly called Youth Day, the 117 th birthday of late Yugoslav president marshal Josip Broz Tito was celebrated in Kumrovec.

KUMROVEC, CROATIA – Popularly called Youth Day, the 117 th birthday of late Yugoslav president marshal Josip Broz Tito was celebrated in Kumrovec on Saturday. Some 10,000 Tito enthusiasts gathered from Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Italy. The same celebration also marked the 65 th anniversary of the third ZAVNOH (The State Antifascist Council of the National Liberation of Croatia) sitting.

- With the decisions of the third ZAVNOH sitting, Croatian statehood was renewed and Vladimir Nazor became the first Croatian president. One of the decisions from this sitting was also free education, which students are fighting for today once again – said Vesna Culinovic-Konstantinovic, president of the Anti-Fascist Fighters and Anti-Fascists of Croatia.

Attacker Banac countered President Mesic on the public scene, because he paid tribute to the victims of the anti-fascist and Ustasha terror, because supposedly, he too implements the policy of forgetfulness regarding communist crimes. Banac intentionally forgets what sort of crimes were committed by those whom he protects. He has turned the Croatian Helsinki Committee into a weapon for the “defence of human rights”, to the damage of victims, winners of World War II – Badovinac pointed out.

Iconography and combat songs marked the celebration

- Filoustashas and their family ideology followers are trying to cover up their defeat and turn themselves into Croatian martyrs, victims of communist executors. We must ask ourselves, what is the part of the clergy in this, which preaches that it is possible to turn every defeat into victory with faith and the help of God – Tomislav Badovinac, president of the Josip Broz Tito Croatia association wondered as he addressed the crowd. Badovinac also looked back on the work of the Croatian Helsinki Committee.

This year`s celebration was also marked by iconography and a bit bizarre staging in the streets of Kumrovec, as the young and the old paraded, wearing partisan hats and scarves, dancing and singing combat songs dedicated to brotherhood and unity.
