Instead of Tadic, his emissary Bojan Pajtic arrived, accompanied by the Bosnian-Serb entity of Republika Srpska PM Milorad Dodik.
ZAGREB, CROATIA – Although it was almost definite that Boris Tadic will arrive in Zagreb for the Serbian People`s Council congress, he cancelled his attendance last night. In stead of him, his emissary Bojan Pajtic arrived.
As it was announced, the Bosnian-Serb entity of Republika Srpska PM Milorad Dodik came to Zagreb.
Assembly began with Croatian and Serbian anthems
Milorad Pupovac welcomed, with special honour, representatives of Serbs from Kosovo while diplomats from Russia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia were greeted with loud applause. The Councillors started the assembly with the Croatian and Serbian anthems. The Vatroslav Lisinski concert hall, which is where the sitting was held, seated 1,682 councillors.
In his 20-minute address, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic pointed out to the necessity of European associations, saying that associated Europe does not include war as a political means.
- National minority can no longer be a motive to conquer someone else`s territory – Mesic said, adding that this region will never be a “powder keg” if European standards are accepted.
Milorad Dodik turned to the stage, saying:
- Serbs are the great victims of the breakdown of former Yugoslavia, people who were killed in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo. We were the bad guys on the world`s media stage – Dodik said, receiving loud applause.
Dodik told Serbs in Croatia that they can find their home in the Bosnian-Serb entity of Republika Srpska, if they cannot realise their rights in Croatia.
- We laid down in former Yugoslavia and woke up in different countries. At times, I wonder why was all this called for – Dodik wondered.
- I listened to Pupovac`s speech and sensed he lacks a voice, I sensed all the burden of the Serbs` position – Dodik continued, appealing to the Croatian authorities to solve the issue of refuged Serbs as soon as possible.
