ZAGREB, CROATIA - Are you allowed to bathe in the fountain? – laughing Portuguese girls asked us
, after finding salvation from the heat in Mandusevac fountain in Zagreb’s main square. Although we explained them that it is forbidden, weird 24-year-old Portuguese girls went one taking pictures in Ban Jelacic Square.
- I am hot – Rita added, while her friend Ana explained us that they would spend only one day in Zagreb, as sleep in a youth hostel.
- Tomorrow morning we are off to Plitvice already, then Dubrovnik and then back in Zagreb to catch our plane. Zagreb is a nice city, pretty quiet. Is it because it is Sunday? – Ana asked.
Straight on to the Square
The empty streets of Zagreb were filled with a high number of tourists, who wanted to immortalise
each second of their visit with their cameras. Although to many Zagreb was just a stop of their journey, hence would not live all the charms of the Croatian metropolis, 29-year-old Spaniards decided to tour the city and see everything. At least as much as they could.
- We liked the Cathedral best. We arrived an hour ago so we have to hurry and take a look at everything. We are travelling Europe. Yesterday we were in Bratislava, and tomorrow we are off to Dubrovnik – said Koldo, Fran and Etor from Bilbao
A group of French tourists showed how tourists can sometimes find it hard to adapt to the streets of Zagreb, who, with their car, took an unusual route – straight on to Ban Jelacic Square along the tram track. So Zagreb’s pedestrian zone became a regular road for a while, until the police stopped the headless tourists.
“Old-timers” around Europe
However, another group of tourists from France, who arrived in Zagreb for only one day, arrived on occasion of an interesting tradition. Every year, these old-timers travel around Europe, and this year their destination was Croatia.
- We have been in Opatija, now we are in Zagreb, tomorrow we are going to Dubrovnik. Then to
Montenegro and Italy. We did not manage to tour Zagreb considering we have just arrived, so I can not say much about it. We took a ride in the tram and now we are going to Upper Town. It is pretty quiet around – said 35-year-old Sandra Wojanczyk, adding that her grandmother was born in Poland, so it is interesting to her to be in this part of Europe.
Althouth it is her first visit in Zagreb and Croatia, Sandra said that heard a lot from her friends from Germany about the beauty of Croatia and its sea. Before leaving Zagreb, she and her travel mates will pass by the Cathedral, where they will proudly show their 23 Citroen, about 50 years old.
