Vesna Pusic peeled potatoes on Zagreb’s main square and citizens watched the candidate for mayor with curiosity.
ZAGREB, CROATIA – Peel potatoes and not citizens! Enough is enough! – Vesna Pusic shouted energetically on Ban Jelacic Square as she was peeling potatoes. Curious citizens walked up to her and watched the HNS’s candidate for mayor perform her imaginative task as part of her party’s electoral campaign.
The Croatian People’s Party (HNS) thought up of an original way of how to attract the attention of
- I think the message is clear. They should peel potatoes, not citizens. We truly expect a change in Zagreb’s government, that is the primary goal as an introduction into a change of government in the country. We can take neither any more – Pusic said, adding that her party colleague, Radimir Cacic, was also peeling potatoes at Maksimir Park.
Sandro Sandoval, spokesman for Zagreb’s HNS, thinks that the presentation of their political message is an effective and funny way of communicating with citizens and a good stimulus for people to vote.
- We wanted a humorous way to communicate with citizens and urge them to vote. This is also an opportunity to remind them that the situation in the city, but also in the entire Croatia, is rather bad. The local elections are the first step towards changing things for the better – he said.
Ahead of the official deadline for the publishing of candidacies for the local elections, the HNS at the last minute decided to make a reshuffle. Radimir Cacic will not run in the elections and the support of the party’s leaders went to Josip Kregar. They explained Cacic’s withdrawal with the HNS’s strategy aimed at their primary and most important goal – to chase Milan Bandic out of his mayor seat.
