Courageous Split citizens defy winter chills at the legendary Bacvice beach and play picigin.

SPLIT, CROATIA – Although the temperature has been rather low in Split for days now, picigin enthusiasts, players of the authentic Split beach sport, cannot not be stopped. Thus, courageous Split citizens defy winter chills at the legendary Bacvice beach. As they say themselves, this is where they feel best, they forget their everyday problems, emphasising that the cold strengthens the organism and the Bacvice beach is their second home.

Official game rules state that with constant kicking and hitting, the ball has to be kept up in the air for as long as possible, without it hitting the ground or sea surface. The ball is hit once by one player, with one hand, usually their palm, even though exemptions from this rule are possible if they contribute to the general impression of excellence.
