The students want free schooling for all, and they consider all parts of the structure to be responsible for the poor state.

ZAGREB, CROATIA - Students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities have started a blockade of studies until their demands are met, and the first of them is free schooling.

“We want free schooling from primary school to a PhD, the young decided that they can and I think that we can make changes” said one of the organizers of the protest.

Their rebellion is aimed directly at the cabinet, because they control the state budget, and they are prepared to protest as long as needed. So the students walked the hallways of the faculty seeking others to show solidarity.

Message to minister: “We do not want crumbs, we are hungry for knowledge”

“Today the students showed how far they are willing to go to achieve their aims, and that aim is the most natural for the student population. The basic aim of the protest is the principle of democracy. It is not directed for some higher purpose, this is the real will of the students” said one of the protesters.

The students started to prepare for the a few months ago, because nothing has changed since their last protest a year ago. Some of the professors gave their support to the students, and according to the words of one of the organizers “exams will not be held during the blockade”.

The rest of the day, the students held a forum called “what is the price of school fees?” and a workshop about the general chaos in the Croatian education system. The students will gather at 8pm again to decide if the blockade will continue or not.

If they decide to continue it, according to the pamphlets that they handed out, they will practice yoga and listen lectures on activism, the cold war, transition and democracy.
