ZAGREB, CROATIA - President of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Zoran Milanovic and party leaders laid down flowers at the grave of their former president Ivica Racan anent his birthday. Tribute to the former prime minister was also paid by Ivo Josipovic, Milanka Opacic, Zeljka
Antunovic and Tonino Picula.
Representing the Zagreb SDP organisation, Milan Bandic arrived a little late. Ivica Racan`s wife Dijana Plestina lit two candles in silence.
Ivica Racan was born on February 24, 1944. He renamed and reformed the Social Democratic Party.
He was the prime minister of a coalition cabinet from 2000 until 2004, while he was re-elected as SDP president at the 9 th party convention in May 2004.
Ivica Racan died in Zagreb on April 29, 2007 after falling ill with kidney cancer.
