Text

In Samobor in the Ivan Rendic street this morning around 3 a.m. two cars and wooden shed set on fire, and the cause is not known yet.

The cars VW Golf 5 and BMW X5 set on fire, both Zagreb´s registrations on the property of Zagreb´s lawyer Mirko Batarela. The fire spreaded from cars to the wooden shed, but the real cause of fire is still not known.

Is the cause failure on installations?

Fire started about 2.40 a.m. on the BMW X5, which is owned by company of Batarelo´s daughter Signumsped. Yesterday she returned from the journey to Zadar around 4 p.m. and everything was fine with a car.

- Neighbors woke me up and called the firemen. I got up and saw how everything is burning. I was completely helpless, and what is the worst, the firemen went on the wrong address in Zagreb. According to first information of the investigation team, failure on BMW´s installations caused the fire  - Mirko Batarelo stated.

We have unofficially found that the fire has started in the back part of BMW. That is not the first time they have problems with four years old car. The alarm used to switch on frequently, and different breakdowns happen as well. His son shoot the fire with a camera, so we are publishing one of those authentic photos.

Three months old VW Golf 5 belonged to his wife is completly burned while his Mercedes E 270 was in the garage and is not damaged.

I am not involved in some dirty games

On the sooty fire site where the investigation is performed, the smell of burning was still in the air. On Batarelo´s request police teams were on the site, including Zagreb police department and Samobor police. He also requested radical investigation from county state lawyer.

- I am not involved in some suspicious games or in maffia. I am trying to avoid that and I do not believe it was arson - Batarelo added. The complete damage caused by fire is about 100 thousand of euros, and the whole destroyed property is ensured.

Coffie affair

Batarelo became known in 2003 when the USKOK eavesdropped his telephone conversations with  Zagreb´s county public prosecutor Krunoslav Canjuga. After that Canjuga  resigned. It was published that Canjuga and Batarelo supposedly talked about the bribery in exchange for less punishment considering the case of black marketing huge amounts of coffee. In that case Batarelo was the lawyer of one suspect.
