PhotoThe world record holder according to Guinness has made a pyramid out of 9,139 glasses. He is planning to break this record.
POREC, CROATIA – Anto Kafadar, world record holder on creating a pyramid out of glasses according to the Guinness book of records, is planning to create the biggest glass pyramid in the world using 47,905 glasses! He announced his venture during the Davis Cup quarter-final match between Croatia and USA in Porec. He constructed a 2,024-champagne glass pyramid in front of the Zutika hall, where the matches are being played.
Anent the Davis Cup tournament, the Porec man had the Davis Cup insignia engraved on every glass, along with the writing “Croatia – USA, Porec July 10-12, 2009”. As the match of the day ended, he filled up the glasses with Bakarska vodica champagne and old them for 50 kuna. However, the home guests were not interested, he just sold a few glasses.
It will be 9.20 metres tall
- I spent four hours making the pyramid and filled it up with champagne given to me by Mr. Ivica Hanzek, president of the Istravina Board. It took me two and a half months to engrave the glasses, but nobody is buying them. If I were a Swiss man, for instance, they would surely be buying them… You can`t be popular at home – Kafadar was disappointed.
The lack of interest will not keep him from his hobby, because he is planning to break his own world record, which he set in 20007. After that, he will open a sea food restaurant.
- I am already collecting the glasses, I will make a 9.20 metre pyramid out of 47,905 glasses. I will be putting it together for seven days and seven nights. This project amounts to at least 150,000 euros. I still don`t know where I will be making the pyramid, I am in talks with Slovenia, or perhaps in Zagreb or Split. We`ll see – he said.
He decided on this venture because it took him 16 hours to assemble 9.139 glasses and this project would give him the number one position in the world for a longer time. He assembled his first pyramid in 1973 at a wedding, when the guests asked him to create one out of 700 glasses.
- The bride poured champagne in a waterfall – he said with delight, recalling how his glass adventure began.
