Resolution of the ‘Index’ affair was reached today and 19 individuals were convicted in the case that involves sales of exam results.
Former President of Parliamentary Commission for the Conflict of Interest and University Professor, Desa Mlikotin-Tomic, was convicted today for ‘trading’ exam results at the Zagreb Faculty of Economics along with 18 professors, students and mediators in the case called “Index 3”.
First-degree verdict, reached by the Zagreb County Court’s judge Zoran Luburic, says that they are guilty of abuse of power and authority, for receiving and giving bribes and illegal mediation. During this process two defendants, Professor Nina Liszt and student Daniel Malaric, were acquitted of all charges

Out of nineteen defendants who got convicted, five received unconditional prison sentences, while fourteen were granted conditional probation period lasting up to one year and eight months.
Professor of commercial law Desa Mlikotin-Tomic was convicted for abuse of position and authority as well as bribery. Her sentence consists of three-year teaching ban and unconditional jail term lasting one year and two months.
Cevid sentenced to two and a half years in prison
Unconditional sentence was also awarded to Jadranko Grgona and Tihomir Vranesevic. Grgona was sentenced with a year and ten months in prison, along with a five-year teaching ban, while Vranesevic got eight-month-jail-term and a two-year teaching ban.
Chief mediator in ‘exam sales’, Milan Cevid, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison, despite a fact that he admitted all charges and despite USKOK’s proposition to award him with a parole.
Today’s verdict can be appealed with the Supreme Court.
