Police Cheif: Niksa Exposed Police to Public Lynch

The allegations from the letter that SDP’s youth forum sent to Faber were denied, saying that politicisation of the police is in question.

ZAGREB, CROATIA - The chief of police Vladimir Faber answered allegations on Monday from a letter that was sent to him by the SDP (Social Democratic Party) youth forum, linked to the Niksa Klecak case.

“The right to defence for every individual and organization, including the police, is undeniable. There has been various disinformation, so we want to present the other side of the medal. We stress that Niksa Klecak did not have complaints on the work of the police, and falsely informed the public about the whole procedure. We consider Klecak’s statements to be exactly what we announced a fight against, or the politicisation of the police. Klecak used the actions of the police to create an impression that party membership is in question, and in that way he manipulated the public” said Faber at an unscheduled press conference.

Faber repeated that the police acted according to the law in the case of searching his apartment and bringing Niksa Klecak in for questioning, because the only thing that he can complain about, said Faber, is the appropriateness of the police actions.

“The proceedings were founded on the Croatian public law, and was carried out according to the law. I might have acted differently. We apologise to Klecko’s family if they experienced any inconvenience during the actions, but they must know that all citizens are equal before the law” said Faber. He added that the police is prepared for public criticism and analysis of work, but considers this exposure to a public lynch a pamphlet.
