In the flat of the two suspects, the police found chemicals with which could have been used to extract 80 Kg of cocaine.
Through a joined operation of the Slovenian and Croatia police, the customs police and the USKOK (Office for the Prevention of Corruption and Organized Crime), two Croats, suspects of smuggling 381.65 Kg of cocaine from Columbia, were arrested. As we found out, the operation started on June 2, when the Slovenian customs office in the port of Koper carried out an inspection of containers in which they found a press and six compressors.
Considering that the machinery came from Columbia, which is on the list of dangerous countries, the Slovenian customs sent the contents of the press to be analysed. The analyses showed that it was cocaine dissolved in an unknown oil. The Slovenes immediately informed their Croatian colleagues who controlled the package.
- The drugs, whose route was Cartagena-Kingston-Haifa-Koper, was let inside Croatia where, on June 6, it passed the Croatian customs of Zapadni Kolovor. At 11:46, the owner of the press came to pick up the drugs and was immediately arrested – said crime inspector Damir Marocic during a press conference at the Police Directorate. Marocic added that the Croatian police and customs forces had been in contact with the Slovenes since June 3, and that the monitoring of the drugs and the arrested had been accurately planned.
In the flat they found chemicals for used to extract cocaine
Marocic added that already at 14:00h, they arrested a second suspect in Croatia, and that further investigations showed that the two got in touch with a company in Columbia in the first months of 2008. From the company, the two suspects ordered and then paid for the press and a compressor, considering that in the flat of the suspect they found a complete correspondence with the Columbian company.
After that, Marocic continued, they organised the shipping of the drugs with unknown people and hid it inside the press. Then they transported the durgs through the legal company of the suspect.
Besides, while searching their flats, they found chemicals used to extract cocaine by which, according to calculations made by the Slovenian police, they would have extracted between 80 and 100 Kilograms of cocaine, worth between four and five million euros.
