Police Don`t Have Pukanic`s Killer And Involve Me

Mentioning me in the whole matter of the Ivo Pukanic murder leads to only one conclusion, which is that the Croatian police, jurisdiction and state don`t know whom to charge for the Ivo Pukanic murder so they involve me again – Milenko Kuzmanovic told us in an exclusive interview.

Recently, information leaked in the media that there is a new mystery witness in the murder case of Nacional weekly co-founder Ivo Pukanic (who was killed in October 2008 in downtown Zagreb), who took part in the preparations for the assassination. He revealed to investigators that Kuzmanovic was also included. Kuzmanovic was released from custody on Christmas Eve after 55 days due to lack of evidence.

- Although I don`t know who this supposed mystery witness is, and the question is whether he exists at all, there is not a 0.01 percent of reason to mention me, which the investigators had the opportunity of seeing during my 55 days of custody. Or, as it has been with my case from the beginning, lies are current once again – Kuzmanovci said.

He says that he voluntarily provided his DNA upon being arrested and that nothing was determined which would provide charges against him regarding the Pukanic murder, or anything else.

- When a hearing was held for my on November 21, 2009, Robert and Luka Matanic were brought as well, along with Slobodan Djurovic. Their testimonies matched 95 percent with my statement to the investigating judge. I took the documents and brought them to Robert in Croatia and when I arrived there, they were already arrested – Kuzmanovci remembered.

He added that the police had nothing against him, which they confirmed by releasing him. During his 55 days in custody, he was not once brought before a court and none of his three sisters were allowed to visit him, when they arrived in Zagreb from Belgrade.

- I would like to mention that the Serbian police was notified on the address I was keeping long before and that I am always prepared to give a statement, even in Croatia, because I have nothing to fear and am not guilty of anything. It is my opinion that the Croatian police and jurisdiction proved to be incompetent, because they have not made a step forward the whole time. I would just like to know how they paid this witness-repenter, if there is one. Because, at first, they offered a 100,000 Kuna reward, so I winder how much he got for his statements. Clearly, it took them a lot to “stuff him”, i.e. to teach him what to say, seeing how there is no evidence to continue the investigation. Let`s not forget that they were wrong in the Elvis Hadzic case, just like Velimir Zak, who was acquitted in court for accessory to the assassination, and they were wrong in my case – Kuzmanovic was embittered.

He pointed out that the conclusion of the whole matter could lead to one thing, the system wants to clear its name by attacking him once again, because he filed a lawsuit against Croatia in January.

- The Croatian system wants to clear its name in any way possible, i.e. by illicitly arresting me without any grounds and keeping me in custody for 55 days and they now get me involved once again so that my lawsuit is dropped. I am pointing out that from a legal point of view, I can file a lawsuit as many time as I want, and I will submit my case to the Human Rights Court in Strasbourg, because after being dragged in the media and courts, I have the will now more than ever to prove that the Croatian system is incompetent – Kuzmanovic concluded.
