With the decision to recognise Kosovo we put down the basis for the future development of our bilateral relations, Mesic wrote to Sejdiu.
ZAGREB, CROATIA - After the Croatian cabinet announced the recognition of Kosovo, Croatian President Stjpan Mesic sent a letter to Fatmir Sejdiu, the president of Kosovo, the President’s Office reports.
- It is my particular satisfaction to address to you on the day the Croatian cabinet has made the decision to recognise Kosovo. With this decision we have put down the basis for the future development of our bilateral relations which, I am confident, will be characterised by friendship, spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding – it is written in Mesic’s letter to Kosovo’s president.
- I expect and believe that the independent Kosovo will grow into a democratic country of equal citizens, in which human rights will be strictly respected and which will be based on the rule of law – the Croatian president continued, adding that these will be preconditions that will lead Kosovo to participate as an important factor of peace and stability in the region.
- The Republic of Croatia sincerely hopes that, in the area of former Yugoslavia and among the states that were formed in this area, there will be solid relations of mutual respect, full of equality and unity in the approach to a common target, that is to join Europe and the European Union. In the journey towards Europe, the Republic of Croatia offers its hand of friendship to all countries in the region, ready to share its experience with them – Mesic stressed, wishing to the Republic of Kosovo and to all its citizens to advance towards peace and security in good relations with all neighbours as soon as possible.
