Prisoners For Cathedral Reconstruction

Decision to donate profit from collected bottles to the cathedral surprised prison employees.

Prisoners of Remetinec donated around 3,000 bottles and a large amount of paper for the reconstruction of the Zagreb Cathedral. After three months of collecting money from old bottles, instead for a new gym, they gave the money to Kaptol (the Church).

As the Jutarnji list reports, this gesture touched Monsignor Mijo Gabric and surprised the Remetinec prison employees. Around 800 prisoners had been collecting plastic bottles and old paper each day for the past three months. Most bottles were collected after the New Year`s party.

The Monsignor pointed out how more and more people became involved in the action of donating packaging to the Zagreb cathedral. He offered to hold a mass in the prison chapel for the Remetinec lads, if they invite him.
