Probe Against Matekovic For Zagorec`s Jewels!

Text

If Ico Matekovic really has Vladimir Zagorec`s jewels, they an investigation must be conducted and Matekovic punished.

Ivan Matekovic Ico is isolated in the Lepoglava prison where he is serving a 7-year sentence for kidnapping the underage son of Vladimir Zagorec, however, according to the Jutarnji list daily, he has evidence against retired Croatian general Vladimir Zagorec.

After his brother Libero Matekovic paid a visit to Zagreb attorney Zvonimir Hodak in February this

Hearing in the Slogar case

Just after the verdict to Vladimir Zagorec was announced, his attorney Zvonimir Hodak was questioned at Zagreb County Court in the murder case of his daughter Ivana Hodak. The judge questioned him about certain claims that suspect for the murder Mladen Slogar had stated in his deposition. According to our information, Hodak took this hearing harder that the verdict to Zagorec.
year and showed him photographs of the jewels, demanding three million euro on behalf of his brother for the evidence, Ico Matekovic went a step further, claiming that he owns the jewels themselves, just like a bag full of evidence which links Zagorec with crimes.

Investigation against Matekovic?

After consulting with his defendant Vladimir Zagorec, Hodak refused the help of the Matekovic brothers and handed over all the documents to the police and the State Attorney`s Office (DORH). However, as the news that Matekovic offered the same evidence to the State Attorney`s Office in January was reported in the media, it can be concluded that the DORH has already been informed about the incriminating material, photographs of the jewels and information about the sale.

If it is true that Matekovic owns the jewels, a question arises: did the DORH check up on these claims with the intention of finding and taking away the jewels?

With such developments, an investigation against Ice Matekovic had to have been opened, who had been hiding the jewels for nearly ten years, according to the present claims, jewels because of which Zagorec was sentenced to seven years in prison.

“This is a sheer bluff”

I can`t say anything for the time being, seeing how I took the stand in this process. I will comment once the verdict is valid.

- When he came to my office, his brother told me that Ico had the jewels. If this is true, then why aren`t these jewels found and taken away? But, look, the whole story about Ico Matekovic and the jewels was published a day before the verdict to Zagorec was announced, and it came out as an alibi for the court. Where has Ico Matekovic been since the trial started and why did he appear at the very end of the trial with key evidence? I think it is clear. This is a sheer bluff and pressure on the public – Hodak believes.

However, the State Attorney`s Office does not believe this is a bluff. As we unofficially found out, an investigation called “Jewels 2” began and is now in its initial stage. Kresimir Devcic, spokesperson of the Zagreb county Court, revealed that there were no precise leads yet, saying that there were no requests for investigative action on this matter,
