The possible departure of Racan from politics will quite affect the political currents in Croatia, HSP`s Vlado Jukic said.
-Last week I spoke with him over the telephone and he complained about suffering strong pain which could be noticed in his voice- said Vesna Skare-Ozbolt of the Democratic centre party, adding his medical condition was still not the conversation topic.
-Many people upon finding themselves in these situations, find motive for even better work, so I believe the same will happen to Racan and the Social-Democratic Party (SDP), she said, expressing her regret.
Vesna Pusic, Croatian People`s Party (HNS) president also hopes this is a temporary situation because he is a key figure in Croatian politics.
“A shame for Croatian politics”
-I hope it will not come to Racan backing down from politics because it would be such a shame for the country as well as politics- she said.
Milorad Pupovac, Serbian minority parliamentary representative feels sincerely sorry about the condition Racan is in, but stresses how he has too much work to do to speculate over somebody`s illness.
For Member of Parliament Furio Radin this was the first sign of the situation, so he, after the initial disbelief and lack of words, managed to wish Racan a fast recovery.
-I call upon the journalists to monitor the situation development ethically because this is still a private matter- said Radin.
The Croatian Party of the Right (HSP) secretary general Vlado Jukic, pointed out how any sort of comment, when it comes to somebody`s health, is not tasteful, but he considers Racan`s departure from politics will quite affect the political currents in Croatia.
“Things might change”
-Seeing how this is an election year, many things might change because Racan is a member of one of the most influential parties in Croatia- said Jukic.
-Governing a party like SDP requires the entire person, but when health is at stake, one must fight for oneself- said the Croatian Peasant`s Party (HSS) Josip Friscic, adding how this case will not significantly shake up the political state of the country.
Djurdja Adlesic, the Croatian Social-Liberal Party (HSLS) president hopes Racan will come back into politics before the summer, pointing out how the SDP head has surely prepared his party for the elections.
-I believe this is Racan`s temporary leave and how he will return to the parliamentary seats after a few medical treatments- said Damir Kajin, the Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) president.
He added how this state will not affect other parties, because they will not profit from it, nor will SDP lose the voter`s trust because of it.
“Too young to retire”
-Racan is relatively young to retire- said Kajin, telling him to listen to doctor`s advise.
Croatian Parliament President Vladimir Seks joined in wishing a fast recovery of his political opponent.
-Although we have been political opponents for many years, I sincerely wish him a speedy recovery, and to return to the political scene as soon as possible- Seks pointed out.
