Radin: This Situation is Harmful

Text

In the Italian Cultural Institute in Zagreb no comment on the cancelled meeting of Milan Mayoress and Undersecretary of Italy

After a statement was issued that today's presentation of Milan's Mayoress with Vittorio Craxi, undersecretary of Italy' Ministry for Foreign Affairs has been cancelled, we asked for more information in the Italian Cultural Institute in Zagreb.

However, in the Institute, they were not in the mood to give any comments.

- We cannot comment on it, it is a status quo situation – they said in the Institute.

Italian minority MP Furio Radin confirmed to us that diplomatic relations with neighbouring Italy are becoming increasingly tense.

- The meeting has been cancelled because of the strained relations between two countries; Radin said and added that he is vary concerned over the new situation.

He referred to the recent public statements of President of the Republic of Italy Giorgio Napolitano and President Mesic.

- It is best that each president should speak about the sins of (the people) from his side, and not t hurl accusations, Radin thinks and says that this kind of situation is harmful most to the Italian minority in Istria and Kvarner.

This kind of skirmishing benefits no one, it stems from the problems of the past – Radin said, and appealed to both presidents to meet and make peace with each other.
