A radioactive truck from Bosnia-Herzegovina passed through Croatia. Customs officers did not notice it in Croatia.
Radiation detection devices determined 50 times greater radiation levels than natural on a truck with Bosnia-Herzegovina license plates.
The truck laden with scrap metal entered Croatia on Monday at 19:30 hours at the Obrezje border crossing, the Jutarnji list daily writes.
Slovenes determined the presence of radio active isotope Europium (Eu152) thanks to good detectors, which the Croatian police and customs would attain by accessing the European Union.
Slovene customs officers removed the radio active material from the truck and banned the entry of metal into Slovenia.
Croatian customs officers were not notified by their Slovene colleagues of the radio active truck.
A press release of the Slovenian Customs Administration reads that determining the radio active material prevented negative consequences for the environment and the population.
