Ritz Mother: Let Punishment Be Precedent

Luka Ritz`s mother spent her son`s childhood protecting him from hooligans. She could not have imagined such an ending.

ZAGREB, CORATIA – The attackers of Luka Ritz have finally been arrested and brought before a judge in Zagreb. Suzana Ritz, mother of murdered 19-year-old Luka, told us that she was surprised with the attackers` age.

- I was contacted by the police last night and they told me everything. I know five boys were brought in and one has confessed. All I can say is that I have no interest in their faces and names, the only thing I am interested in is that they are suitably punished. I want the punishment to be a message to society, the state and institutions, that what the attackers have done is very bad. If necessary, make it a precedent – mother Ritz told us in a sad voice, adding that she spent entire Luka`s childhood protecting him from hooligans in parks. Suzana Ritz could not have imagined such a tragic ending.

Suspects for the murder of Luka Ritz were brought before an investigative judge in Zagreb on Wednesday.

The detained youths include two 17-year-olds (K.M. and M.K.), a 15-year-old, 18-year-old S.S and a 16-year-old (J.J.) suspected of inflicting severe injuries to Luka Ritz and his friend.

They all confessed to attacking Ritz and his friend. The four underaged boys stated their confession with the presence of lawyers, wile the only a8-year-old suspect did so with his attorney present.

Without being provoked, J.J. and K.M. approached Luka Ritz and his friend that night, hitting Luka and knocking him to the ground. They continued kicking him on the floor. Soon, friends joined the attackers, physically assaulting the 19-year-old and his friend.

After spending three days in hospital, Luka was discharged, but a week later, he was sick and was readmitted. He died of abrain hemorrhage during an operation.
