Ivo Sanader said that the only thing to change after elections would be that their illusion that they will come to power will be shattered.
At yesterday’s celebration of the 17th anniversary of the foundation of the party’s chapter in Jelsa, Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) president Ivo Sanader said to “those who think that something will change after the elections in November” that “the only thing to change will be that their illusion that they will come into power will be shattered”.
He founded this on the party’s results that had brought progress to every part of Croatia.
The defence of Croatia, resistance against the aggressor, the creation of a strong defence force, international affirmation and recognition is what nobody can deny as being HDZ’s success, Sanader said. He added that two more goals had to be achieved – entry into the Europen Union and NATO. “These are the goals we aspire to and we are on the threshold of receiving an invitation for NATO in a year at the NATO summit, most probably in Rumania, which was today confirmed to me by the Rumanian premier”, Sanader said.
On this path Croatia will have great challenges and problems that need resolving using past experiences, he said. Both while we were the opposition and today we make tough decisions that some do not understand at the beginning, but you give us support just as you had confidence in President Tudjman who led us to the realisation of Croatia’s independence, Sanader said.
He urged the attorneys of Hague indictees to stop bickering, and to jointly contribute to both the defence of their clients and the defence of Croatia’s interests. Croatia’s national interest is also the preserving of the equality of Croats in Bosnia-Herzegovina, but also the creation of conditions for a better life for every Croatian citizen, he stressed.
This government, he said, has enabled better connection of islands with the mainland and secured stimulative measures for boosting economy on the islands, he said.
He announced the completion of sections of the highway towards Dubrovnik and again confirmed that the Komarna – Peljesac bridge would be constructed.
