Milanovic invited Mesic to decide for SDP and for chances which the majority of voters voted for. After that, his eyes met Sanader’s.
President of SDP (Social Democratic Party) Zoran Milanovic and president of HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union) Ivo Sanader met by chance in the hall of the President’s Office, in the moment when Milanovic finished with the consultations, and Sanader just arrived for his turn with President Mesic.
On this occasion Sanader asked Milanovic if he formed the Cabinet, and Milanovic briefly answered:
- As you did.
Milanovic said about the second round of consultations that he met the president through discussions which he announced with all coalition partners and that he invited Mesic to hand over the mandate to form the cabinet to SDP.
- Since no one has the majority yet, I invited the president to pick us, along with the changes which the majority of people voted for – Milanovic said, adding that the president will decided on his own when and to whom to give the mandate.
Milanovic said that in politics you have to make decisions.
- Those who are not in the position to make decisions and take the responsibility should not do that job – Milanovic said, not wanting to confirm if he refers to the HSS-HSLS (Croatian Peasants Party – Croatian Social Liberal Party) coalition.
When asked if Mesic will accept Milanovic’s proposition and hand over the mandate to SDP, the president of the party said that Mesic will make this decision on his own, but he thinkst that in any case he has to respect the constitution.
When asked what it will be if Sanader gains the mandate, Milanovic repeated that the president has to stick to the constitution and that he will respect his decision whatever it is.
Milanovic said that SDP has more votes that HDZ, and when ask if the constitutional regulation 97, he answered that there is no need to change it.
