Sanader In Election Campaign

Text

Pupovac agrees with HWO report on the condition of Serbs in Croatia, but believes Sanader is not right to say all problems have been solved.

-It is a case of a report from 2005, but things have changed since then- explains the Croatian Helsinki Committee (HHO) Chairman Zarko Puhovski, who thinks more than 60 percent of Serbs remain in Croatia. He sees further disproportion in ratio of those charged with war crimes, because, according to him, a large number of them should be held responsible for crimes perpetrated during the war.

But, for Member of Parliament Milorad Pupovac, it is a case of true figures which suit their assessments and annotations.

-The fact is that due to unsolved residing matters and harsh conditions, many do not stay and it must be solved in the right way- claims Pupovac who believes this government made a few steps in the right direction when it comes to treating Serbian refugees, but that, according to him, is not enough.

Prime Minister Sanader`s statements, who while congratulating Christmas to Orthodox believers said he holds the issue of returned Serbs solved, to Pupovac seem to be reactions better left unspoken.

-A matter which has not been solved cannot be spoken of as if it has been solved. This is probably an electoral context- said Pupovac.

Non-governmental organisation Human Rights Watch report states how over 120 thousand refugees came back to Croatia since August 2006, but only 60 to 65 percent of them stayed in Croatia, while a large number of them, after a short visit, leave the country.
