Sanader’s lawyers: Ostojic sent the threatening message by suspending Tigar

The decision of the Minister of Interior about the suspension of the deputy of head of the police Davor Blazevic Tigar who has been penalized for major violation of official duties has been commented by the lawyers of the former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader as well.

The formal statement is as following:

“We address you as defenders of Mr Ivo Sanader regarding the statement of the Ministry of Interior’ PR  who said that Davor Blazevic, the deputy of the head of the police and the chief of special security department, the ex-associate of Mr Sanader, had been temporarily suspended because of major violation of official duties.  

From this statement it can be concluded that the main and the only reason for this decision is the fact that Mr Blazevic was carrying some packages to Sanader’s lawyer Goran Suic. The statement doesn’t mention the alleged receiver of the packages but implies that no one and especially the employees of the Ministry of Interior should contact not only Mr Sanader, but his lawyers as well.

We don’t have to remind that according to the Constitution and the Law Mr Sanader is a person who didn’t commit any criminal activity. There are no other rules for him or for other citizens of the Republic of Croatia which would limit the free communication between people. The decision says quite the opposite and we don’t see the basis in the legislation about the police functioning which the Minister calls upon.

Therefore we regard this decision as a threatening message not only for us, the lawyers of Mr Sanader, but also for other citizens. This message has serious consequences regarding human rights and basic freedom.”
