Text

Bosnia-Herzegovina media extensively reported about the commemoration for the late SDP head, Ivica Racan.

Ivica Racan was an architect of the modern Croatia and the ideas which he advocated will live after his departure, dailies in Bosnia-Herzegovina wrote Thursday, reporting about the commemoration of the deceased former president of the Croatian Social Democratic Party 8SDP), Ivica Racan.

All electronic media on Wednesday extensively reported about the commemoration at which Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, former Slovene president Milan Kucan and former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder spoke about Racan.

The “Dnevni avaz” daily on Thursday especially relayed the words of President Mesic who stressed Racan’s personal strength and the fact that he had been a kind of a driving force of the Croatian society.

The daily also cited Schroeder who called Racan a great statesman and social democrat, at the same time a great Croatian and European.

The “Oslobodjenje” daily also relayed Mesic’s statement that Racan had been a special symbol of democracy in Croatia for which he had lived with his entire being.

The daily stressed Kucan’s especially emotional statement in which he had recalled the difficult times that himself and Racan had jointly experienced during the time of the disintegration of the former country.

What the Croat member of the BH Presidency, Zeljko Komsic, had written in the Book of Condolence for Racan had been similar.

He stressed that Racan had had the courage to stand up to not only Milosevic, but his entire structure and then, in hard conditions, managed to maintain the SDP as a respectable party.
