The two parties will also have a joint list for Sibenik’s City Council. Independent candidate Ante Zupanovic was suggested for mayor.
SIBENIK, CROATIA – Leaders of Sibenik’s Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Croatian People’s Party (HNS) on Wednesday signed a coalition agreement for local elections. At a news conference they announced that the two parties would put in the candidacy of independent candidate Ante Zupanovic for Sibenik mayor, while candidates for two deputies would be from the SDP and HNS each.
Soon the parties will agree about candidates for deputy mayors, but it is most probable that it will be Franko Vidovic, president of Sibenik’s SDP, and Petar Baranovic, president of the city’s HNS.
- We are convinced that this combination is the winning combination in Sibenik where we want to change the way of thinking and stir the city from its dead end – Vidovic told the news conference.
- The decision about going to elections independently was very difficult for the HNS, but we assessed this was not the time for self-promotion, so it was easy to reach an agreement with the SDP – Baranovic said. He added that Sibenik did not deserve stagnation and the worst macroeconomic indicators in comparison to neighbouring towns.
The heads of the two parties did not wish to comment reporters’ claims that the SDP and HNS would not be able to achieve cooperation in all towns and municipalities, after they announced they would soon announce a coalition of the two parties on the county level.
