- With the loss and death of Ivica Racan, Croatia has been left impoverished by one in the political sense, in the measures of a significant, important and great man – said the president of the Croatian parliament, Vladimir Seks in relation to Ivica Racan’s death.
In the Croatian parliament, a book of condolence has been opened, and all flags are flying at half mast, and I will sign the book of condolence, said Seks to the press in parliament.
A book of condolence has been opened in the Cabinet as well, and on Thursday there will be a commemoration in the Croatian parliament, said Seks.
The president of the Croatian parliament voiced his deepest sympathy to the family of Ivica Racan, his friends, acquaintances, party friends and SDP.
“A man has left who during the past decades, working in Croatian politics and in the public arena, has marked the political scene and a statesman, as a politician, as the ex president of the cabinet, and as a member of parliament. Ivica Racan is one of four members of the Croatian parliament who has been chosen for five mandates, from 1990 to these last elections. In those few decades, working in the political stage and public life in Croatia, he gave attributes to those times, those periods”, said Seks.
He added that Racan in himself, personified the spirit of those times, but he also accepted the strength of change.
“During the collapse of the former country, in the time of the collapse of the political structure then, he gave his mite and recognized a historical moment and historical circumstances with his maturity, determining and accepting changes to the political system, ideological changes and acting in the direction of transforming SKH (League of Communists of Croatia) into a Social-Democratic party, on the way to pro European Croatia and as the president of the Cabinet. Currently, as the president of the national committee for monitoring negotiations, the negotiation process with the EU, he gave a significant contribution to the pro European direction and path of Croatia”, said the president of parliament, Vladimir Seks, concerning the death of Ivica Racan.
