According to Hebrang, women without partners should not have artificial insemination, because the child would be one parent short.
ZAGREB, CROATIA - Andrija Hebrang of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) said on Radio 101 that women without partners should not have artificial insemination, because the child would be one parent short.
- It is the right of all marital unions to have a child, but questions will be asked whether the child should be told who its actual father is and when it should be said. The church opposes this type of insemination, but the right to parenthood is most important – Andrija Hebrang believes.
According to the HDZ member, a child needs both parents and there will be many debates concerning the new law which is in its end phase at the moment.
This law would disable women without spouses to get pregnant via artificial insemination, even as surrogate mothers. Furthermore, the law would determine a legal limit for medically facilitated insemination, the number of procedures covered by health insurance, founding of a sperm donor and ova register, as well as a register of married couples who had offspring with the means of artificial insemination and who were treated for infertility.
