THREE VERSUS THREE

Text
Three leaders concluded that there was no espionage on politicians and managed to draw even more fury from the MPs in search for justice.
Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, President Stjepan Mesic and director of the Security and Intelligence Service (SOA), Tomislav Karamarko, concluded today that three MPs, Milanka Opacic, Vesna Skare-Ozbolt and Djurdja Adlesic were wrong when they claimed they were being watched by secret services.
Sanader: services need protecting
-- The persons mentioned were never subject to procedure, no law was broken in that sense and I think we can be satisfied – said Mesic, while Sanader stressed that it was secret services that needed protection from unfounded attacks by exposed politicians.
But, Democratic Centre (DC) president Vesna Skare-Obzolt said she learnt nothing she had not known on Saturday.
-- All three should wonder how their information is leaking because their meeting today was in the newspapers on Saturday -- said Skare-Ozbolt, who wonders if that was a purposeful leakage of information so the public is prepared.
Different status for each MP
The response did not surprise her, she says, what surprises her is the way in which the leadership, that is, Sanader, protects the interests of the state from three MPs, stressing she would not give up from a law suit that would be ready soon.
-- I do not care who did not take part in the following and processing, but who did – said the leader of the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS), Djurdja Adlesic, who believes it impermissible that the government places all three MPs in the same basket because each one had the right to a different status.
ON the other hand, Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) Milanka Opacic did not wish to comment on the case. Instead, Zeljka Antunovic did so on her behalf.
Expected statements
-- The statements were completely expected, but that something is wrong in the system is indicated by the fact that the alleged reports on supervision first leaked into all the media – she said.
She concluded that even after today’s meeting the answer was not received as to whether and on what grounds the three politicians and non-governmental organisations members had been the subject of a system of repression or a para-intelligence system.
