TRIAL BEGINS

I do not want to state whether I am guilty or not because I do not know what to say, I have not settled this with my lawyer, said Slogar.
At the trial for the murder of Ivana Hodak, the accused Mladen Slogar said that he did not want to declare whether he should be blamed for the horrific crime that took place on the October 6th of last year. This response came after indictment charges were read and after Deputy County Attorney, Dunja Pavlicek, asked whether he understood them.
Slogar said that he does not know what to say, whether he is guilty or not, because he did not agree with his lawyer yet.
Why don’t the public and the media believe Mladen Slogar?
- I am hesitant - the accused said, after which the president of the Trial Chamber, Ivan Turudic, said that he did not understand what was going on.
- After an investigation and indictment, you say you do not understand the charges - said the judge Turudic, to what Slogar’s attorney, Antonio Zujuc, replied with a brief request for some time to consult with his client.
Given that Slogar was undecided about his statements, the court took this as a ‘not guilty’ plea, after which both sides presented their evidence proposals.
The indictment charges Slogar for firing two shots from the Beretta pistol that killed Ivana Hodak and for running away from the crime scene. Ivana was shot in the neck and the head at the stairwell of the building she lived in on October 6th 2008.
