Citizens reported pollution in Jezero bay near Sibenik 20 days ago, and no one has investigated the cause yet.
A muddy, whitish blur that is the source of insufferable stench has been noticed at the entrance to Morinj Bay, which is also home to a hatchery and curative mud.
The inhabitants of Bili Brig hill in the town of Brodarica say that the source of the pollution is the local depository of vegetation water, a by-product in the production of olive oil.
"The cause of the unusual occurrences is not the pollution, but the fact that there is no exchange of water in the bay, which leaves it permanently without oxygen," says Goran Mihelcic, scientist at the Rudjer Boskovic Institute, who wrote his doctorate on the subject of the curative mud in Morinj Bay.
He added that, in these conditions, hydrogen sulphide is formed, which causes the sea to smell, reports Radio Dalmatia.
