Stulhofer: Eurosceptics Become Relevant Power

Text

Increasing scepticism should worry the Croatian public, concluded Aleksandar Stulhofer, otherwise a sexologist, in a research.

Euroscepticism is no longer an option supported by marginal political parties, but it represents a relevant part of the society. This is a result of an analysis carried out for the Institute of Public Finances publication by the Zagreb Faculty of Philosophy professor Aleksandar Stulhofer, the Jutarnji list daily reports.

Although for the past ten or so years citizens expressed their mistrust towards entering the EU, still they wanted to support the entry. However, in the last two years, Croats constantly show an aversion for the accession and great mistrust. Therefore, euroscepticism has a more powerful base.

Reason for this, says Stulhofer, is because opposition towards the EU is perceived as a patriotic act, while among other things, for the increase of such an opinion there is a personal perception of expenses and benefits from the accession.
