The representatives of the City Council have finally decided to stop the construction of Bandic’s Fountains in front of National University Library. The value of the project is 28 mil HRK. They will also stop the reconstruction of Cvjetni Square which costs 8 mil HRK. They have set Monday as the deadline for the Mayor Milan Bandic to propose alternative projects of higher priority instead of these works. If it doesn’t happen, they will change the Plan of construction themselves.
-We have asked the local councils to send the list of priorities that are more important than Cvjetni Square renovation. We think the square is in a good condition – Jurica Meic (SDP), a member of the City Council said. The plan with all the controversial works is on agenda on Thursday. It has been approved neither by city council boards nor by local councils.
- It’s great to hear that the city representatives have finally come to their senses – Pero Kovacevic from Trnje says. The five fountains were planned to be built in that area. Instead of that, the local council asked for the renovation of Trnjanska road from Veceslav Holjevac Avenue to the Sava River. They also asked for water supply in four households in Drziceva Avenue.
In the area of Donji grad they think the priority is the complete reconstruction of Primorska street and street lights.
-The community services condition could be seen in Petrinjska street when they found pipes from 1905 while doing the construction works there. The lights on Cvjetni Square work properly, but when you move a hundred meters further, it’s pretty dark. We do not agree with Cvjetni Square reconstruction – says Marijan Oljica from Donji grad.
