The statue called “Leaves form” made by the Croatian sculptor Vojin Bakic in 1961 is placed in Gajeva street. During summer it is completely blocked by the café tables and in winter it is surrounded by stalls. The sculpture was intended for Ilica skyscraper. During its reconstruction it was thrown as worthless and the designer Ivan Picelj saved it. Now the sculpture is neglected again.
The citizens’ initiative called 1percentforart started the petition on the Internet. They ask the city administration to put two round benches around the two nearby trees to ensure the space for the sculpture and at the same time help to solve the problem of sitting in the pedestrian zone. The petition was signed by more than 500 people in 10 days. Among the people who signed it were the artist Sinisa Labrovic, the writer Ludwig Bauer and the member of the city assembly Svjetlana Lugar.
