The Zagreb Tourist Board celebrates the Day of the City

On the 31st of May, the Zagreb Tourist Board organizes the event “Zagreb stiklec”. It is the guided tour of Zagreb starting at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. There is no need to register. The meeting point is Ban Jelacic Square in front of the Tourist Information Centre. Those who are interested will be able to meet characters from “Zagreb Timeline” as well as Zagreb Street performers. Kaptol area will host folklore groups. Each tour lasts for 2 hours and finishes at Strossmayer promenade with free drinks. There will also be a ceremony of changing Guards. The guards are the members of so-called Kravata (Tie) Regiment.

The City of Zagreb will organize guided bus tours for free. The route includes all the most important tourist, historic and cultural sights of the Upper City. Those who are interested can choose the time: noon, 1.30 p.m., 3 p.m., 4.30 p.m. or 6 p.m. The starting point is in Bakaceva Street. The tickets for this free ride can be obtained in TIC (Tourist Information Board) at Ban Jelacic Square or in ZET shop Petriceva Street 4.The number of tickets is limited, so it will work on “First come, first served basis”. The sale will start on Tuesday, 29th May.

At the same time, the Department for safe traffic organizes the event of “The day of kindness”. The aim is to create a tolerance between drivers and pedestrians. The drivers are motivated to obey the rules and to give way to pedestrians on zebra crossings.

The most solemn part of celebration is the procession celebrating the Mother Mary of Kamenita Vrata Gate who is the patron Saint of the city of Zagreb. The procession will take place after the service in Zagreb Cathedral at 7 p.m. It will finish with prayers in Kamenita Vrata Gate.
