After the Bota trawler sunk off the coast of Korcula Island, fuel leaked which is not dangerous for the environment.
After the sinking of the Bota trawler off the coast of Croatia’s Korcula Island, police have established only two tonnes of light fuel diesel seeped through, which is harmless because it disintegrates in contact with the sea.
-- There is no danger of an ecological incident – spokeswoman for the Maritime, Tourist, Transport and Communications Ministry, Marina Haluzan, told Javno.
She added that minor pollution occurred in the Krscica bay on Korcula, but this has been sanitised by the EKO-Blato utility company.
-- The bay is under control so there is no pollution – Haluzan said.
She added they were waiting for better weather conditions which will permit divers to salvage the trawler and pump the rest of the fuel.
-- Everything is under control, the area will be cordoned off as soon as weather permits – she said.
