BELGRADE, March 15, 2010 (AFP) - A Serbian court on Monday sentenced two Croatian Serbs to 12- and 15-year jail terms for the murder of six elderly civilians during the 1991-1995 conflict in Croatia, Beta news agency reported.
A Serbian war crimes tribunal found Pano Bulat and Rade Vranesevic guilty of killing five women and one man, aged 63 to 81 years, in the eastern Croatian town of Banatski Kovacevac in March 1992.
The two were members of self-proclaimed army of Republika Srpska Krajina, a territory held by rebel Serbs during the war.
Croatia's 1991 declaration of independence from the former Yugoslavia was opposed by Belgrade-backed Serbs, sparking a four-year war that claimed an estimated 20,000 lives.
