International agencies wrote that Croatia’s PM fired ministers and police chief over a mafia killing and in the end a vagrant was arrested.
ZAGREB, CROATIA – International media also reported the news about a homeless man who was arrested for the murder of Ivana Hodak.
- Prime Minister Ivo Sanader fired his interior and justice ministers as well as the national police chief last October because they were unable to improve Zagreb's security situation. The Hodak murder, which sparked outrage, prompted the sackings – Reuters reports.
The news agency also mentions former General Vladimir Zagorec, dubbing his trial as one of the most important in the fight against corruption and organised crime, which is one of the conditions for Croatia to enter the European Union.
The Associated press agency published an article headlined: “Croatia: Drifter Arrested for “Mafia” Killing”.
- Authorities had called it a mafia-style murder and vowed to crack down on organized crime. The interior and justice ministers, as well as the police chief, were sacked hours after the slaying – AP reported.
Bulgaria’s The Echo also reported about the case, stressing that suspicions of Ivana Hodak being the victim of organized crime have disappeared.
- Immediately after her death, Croatian media reports suggested that her murder was linked either to her father's involvement in the trial of former general Vladimir Zagorec – The Echo wrote.
The arrest of Zagreb’s vagrant was also the top story in Slovenian media.
