HOSTAGE CRISIS

One of the arrested robbers was released from prison two months ago. The killed officer I.G. was only 24 years old.
ZAGREB, CROATIA – Zagreb police have arrested two bank robbers who killed one police officer and wounded four, one of whom is severely injured and the doctors are fighting for his life, during their gory campaign of the Raiffeisen Bank in Zagreb.
- We have arrested two robbers and this is all we can confirm for the time being. Everything else is speculations, from the hostage crisis to the number of robbers – a high ranking source from the police told us at 21:30 hours.
- At 18:15 hours we have received a report that robbery was taking place in a bank in Sesvete. Two patrol cars with six police officers headed towards the crime scene and when they accessed the bank, the perpetrator opened fire at them. Two police officers were wounded and one died on the scene. Some 300 metres away from the bank, another patrol car intercepted the perpetrator, who opened fire at the officers and wounded two – Zagreb police spokesperson Aleksandra Ljuba told us, confirming that the killed was arrested.

Killed unarmed police officer?
We were informed that the killed police officer, Ivan Grbavac, was 24 years old and got his police badge just 15 days ago.
According to witnesses, three robbers committed the crime and all three started running towards a building in Jakov Gotovac Street. One of the perpetrators was wearing a white T-shirt and was arrested at the very entrance o the building and pulled into an official vehicle. Unofficially, we found out that the man in question is K.M. who was released from prison two months ago.
Police caught up with the second perpetrator, a larger man with a shaved head, wearing a black T-shirt, at the stairs. According to unofficial information, the third robber is still inside the building, which is now surrounded by some 20 special police unit members. The tenants believe that the robber has taken one or several hostages, while two Ambulances are waiting nearby.
Mr. Darko, whom we saw standing in front of the building, told us he has been at the scene for the past 45 minutes and was exceptionally worried, because his ill mother was alone in her apartment. According to him, the robbers broke the entrance door glass.
Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic arrived at the scene, accompanied by the head of the City`s Emergency Department Pavle Kalinic.
