Who is better – the miserable ones or the idle ones

The people of HDZ are the miserable ones and the SDP people are idle ones. The people of HDZ are thieves, and the people of SDP are the patrons of thieves who don’t let USKOK officials to enter their houses. The top of HDZ is a crime organization. The top of SDP has an ‘’ex-yu’’ policy of red communists resurrection. That’s what HDZ and SDP look like from each other’s perspective. They yell against the dirty election campaign, the one they have passionately partaken at the same time, since the campaign is not the same as the beauty contest; it is unfair, a Macchiavellistic fight for power where the words ‘’I don’t ask for mercy, neither I would given it to you!’’, said by the national hero Rade Koncar in the moment they shot him, get the right meaning.

Everybody knows that the campaign is not the Sunday Mass, so HDZ cries about being verbally molested by SDP for the last two years, only because they can’t stand that much of a hatred every once in a while and then they fight back, are hypocritical and incorrect.

They would do the same if the attacks from the other side were little weaker though. The truth is that nobody has the same treatment and that HDZ is a more common victim of the assaults. The truth is that no one will patron HDZ, as many associations, for example, who validly attacked Vladimir Seks when he offended the SDP female representative Gordana Sobol, kept quiet when the rumors started from a left wing about Jadranka Kosor being a griffon vulture. It is not fair, it has no principle, but the awareness about HDZ being treated unjustly, won’t change a thing. The campaign is such a war where the opponents are not being mutually blessed with holy water but being verbally insulted with an outrage sharper than a knife.

This is a moment when the Croatian public and media space was infected with desire of HDZ descending from the throne.  Every unfavorable thing considering HDZ that was said by the opposition simply fits in this expectation. If HDZ was a better reign than it really was, if there was less stealing, and more investments in development and in the increase of the life-standard, if there was less political games and marketing, and more principles, it would have been all the same for HDZ nowadays, and they would be also walking on hot coals, as they really are. Things are simply as they are in the election campaign. Besides, eight years of governing is eight years. Even the greatest become annoying, not to mention such a compromised political party as HDZ is nowadays.

No matter if HDZ is acting like resentful righteous exposed to the rush of undeserved insults, HDZ quickly adjusted to the situation and initiated the personal level of confrontation. So from the HDZ’s point of view Zoran Milanovic is a domestic abuser and a slacker who takes money from the Croatian citizens for the activity of the MP who does nothing. And now what? When you would consider only the insults mutually exchanged in-between HDZ and SDP on a daily basis, you would ask yourself – who offers his trust to you and who should you give your trust to.  Is it better to bear the miserable ones or will it hurt less if you turn to the slackers and the idle ones? Is the crime organization less dangerous when uncovered or are the crime patrons more dangerous, as the ones who don’t let the investigators to their back-yard since that is a place where they hide their thieves?

These are the rhetorical questions, of course. With the dirty rhetoric filled with too much passion, or even with hatred, it is trying to mobilize own armies, not letting them to sleep, not to relax…. The breaks have been released since, for HDZ as for SDP, the forthcoming elections are like the famous question: to be or not to be. HDZ is fighting so hard, not much for the victory but for the defeat not to end as a complete debacle after which the party will have to raise from the ashes. SDP, on the other hand, has a chance to govern after eight years and if they don’t achieve that, they will find themselves at a dead end. They could get out of it only by finding a new chance or the new identity, but it will be in the next four years.

In order to survive as the head of HDZ, Jadranka Kosor needs a defeat that won’t destroy the party. She will also need a situation where she won’t get defeated on a personal level. That’s why she’s started a certain quest for the election unit where she can make her triumph. And that’s why she looks for the arguments explaining why she won’t enter the elections in Zagreb and confront herself directly with Zoran Milanovic. And the quest for the arguments can be as much as hard as it seems like. You can hear any kind of reason in politics but the one like having the name Jadranka like a beautiful sea of Croatia (Jadransko more) in order to qualify in the 10^th election unit at the south of Croatia?! Helloooo, as some kids from Zagreb would say….

While Jadranka Kosor needs a majestic defeat, Zoran Milanovic needs his victory. Since without it, he won’t exist anymore. He will be remembered as a bed episode of SDP history. The loser who makes everyone to turn away from him… Considering the situation where HDZ and SDP find themselves involved in, it is great they didn’t start to run over each other with their cars in the street.
