Almost 70 percent of human body is water. It is the source of life and it is impossible to survive without it. Therefore, the Maksimir zoo organized the event celebrating the World Water Day on Saturday. They wanted to stress the importance of water. A nice, sunny day attracted two to three thousand visitors, as Kresimir Kovacec, the educator from the zoo, informed.
-We had different presentations at several locations. They were all focused on the importance of water and the ways of saving it. We also showed that healthier diet needs less water. For example, the quantity of water needed for the production of one hamburger with all its side products is 2400 liters. The biggest amount of water is used for food production and this is the problem recognized also by the UN organization – Kovacec said.
There were also art workshops organized for the kids where they could create different objects made from fruit and vegetables. All those who were interested could learn more about the animals that live in water, like for example frogs or turtles.
- We took several elements that people know and we showed why it is important to keep water – Kovacec explained.
