The main road of the north-eastern part of Zagreb County, so called Zagorje highway, has been closed and it will be closed in the next 14 months. The reason is a complete reconstruction of the old, very frequent road.
The heavy traffic is extremely busy in the morning and afternoon hours, when the inhabitants of the suburban areas of Zagreb ago to work and home after work. From now on this traffic will be directed through Zapresic because of the high costs of the alternative road Krapina - Zagreb.
All these things will worsen the situation in Zapresic, where the traffic jams are the everyday situation. One of the reasons is also the fact that they have only one entrance road from Zapresic.
- There will be several steps in the renovation of Zagorje highway. There is no need to be afraid of traffic jams. That’s what the Mayor of Zapresic Zeljko Turk says. He also announces the opening of a new entrance road from Zapresic which will be built in the complex of Novi Dvori. There is a big building site there at the moment but the Mayor says that the road will be opened till the end of the summer and it will make the situation easier for all those who have problems with Zagorje highway closure and traffic jams that could be caused by it.
The renovation of Zagorje highway started last week. It has been planned as a part of Betterment program. The contract for the works has been signed with a firm Niskogradnja d.d. from Zagreb and the cost of the works is more than 51 mil HRK. The works will be monitored by the firm IGH which also made all the project documentation, as they reported from Hrvatske ceste firm.
The works will be divided into four phases and Zagorje highway will be closed for traffic. The planned works include the renovation of the road, the crossroads, the bus stations, the road objects, the road equipment and the road traffic signs.
