Zagreb: HSLS and HSS as a strong political group, but they don’t want HDZ

HSS kept only one representative in the Croatian Parliament and HSLS has been removed from the list of national political parties. In order to revive again, HSLS and HSS formed the second biggest club in the City Council and announced the battle to get the leadership of the city of Zagreb.

In the meanwhile, the city HDZ is going through a very tough period and they don’t refuse the possibility of joining the new coalition. However, the president of HSLS – HSS club Darinko Kosor denied any possibility of joining HDZ and announced that he would first knock on SDP’s door!

- We need a completely new policy which has to be open to investors. Zagreb should get the leading urban expert and when we talk about the problems, we will invite the biggest club in the City Council and that is SDP’s club. We will also call the representatives of HSU and if reach the agreement about Zagreb Holding, we will soon enter the common program. After we talk to them, we’ll see if the coalition with them is possible- Kosor said.

The change of the whole set

The thing is that the president of HSLS survived the failure in the last parliamentary elections in spite of 70 thousand votes. He demands the replacement of the board of Zagreb Holding and the restructuring of this mega company. Nevertheless, he doesn’t deny the possibility of joining the biggest club. He refused HDZ in the very beginning but they are not so harsh towards him. The boss of the city HDZ GordanJandrokovic says that’ he is pleased that HSLS and HSS reached the agreement to act together because the city needs a strong opposition’.

-I believe that the future cooperation between the opposition parties in the city will be stronger so that the change of the whole set of people who have led Zagreb for the last 10 years could take place – the former minister of foreign affairs said. He himself didn’t apply for the position of the leader of Zagreb HDZ once again.

He will change this position for some other place in the leadership of the party as he explained when asked about the reason for giving up the city. The second reason is that the boss of city HDZ should also be the candidate for the Mayor and he thinks that taking so many positions is not a good thing.

The decision after the party elections

His colleague from HDZ Margareta Madjeric says that the decision about the city coalition will be brought after the elections for the city board of the party on the 25^th of April.

While all these political calculations are going on, the president of the City Council and the boss of the city SDP DavorBernardic made a short comment that “every party knows what’s best for them”. He wouldn’t like to interfereKosor’s announcements.

-I don’t want to make any more comments – Bernardic said briefly.
