Zagreb wants to host Universiade 2016!

The capital of Croatia could be the host of Universiade again. Last time Zagreb was the host of this event in 1987, twenty-nine years ago. The Croatian University Sports Federation started the initiative and if the proposal is accepted, Zagreb will host the sportsmen students again in 2016. This information was given by HTV in their news program Dnevnik 3.

- Everyone knows the meaning of University Games and we believe we can bring the event to our town again – the president of the Federation Zrinko Custonja said.

There are three possible scenarios. In the first one, Zagreb would be the only hosting city. In the second scenario, the event would be organized by Zagreb and Rijeka together. The third scenario proposes Zagreb and Ljubljana.

- This idea is politically important and it could mean a nice move. We have the infrastructure so there are no further investments and the benefits are huge – Custonja said to HTV reporters.
