WASHINGTON, March 22 (UPI) -- Airlines serving the United States, both foreign and domestic, saw a 2.1 percent hike in passengers in 2010, the Department of Transportation said Tuesday.
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics said 786.7 million scheduled passengers flew last year.
Although passenger travel increased, it has yet to reach the 2008 level of 812.3 million passengers.
The bureau said domestic carriers experienced a bump of 2.4 percent last year compared to 2009. Breaking that down, domestic passengers rose 1.9 percent, while international passengers increased 5.9 percent.
Domestic passengers traveling abroad rose by 0.3 percent from 2009, the bureau said.
