China Closes Companies That Pollute

Text

Last year, China closed more than 3,000 companies because of their harmful influence on the environment.

China, who is trying to control pollution, whilst facing fast economic development, closed more than 3,000 companies for their harmful effect on the environment, reported the China Daily on Monday.

A representative of the national authority for protecting the environment reported that they were targeting factories who do not know how to take care of industrial waste in an acceptable way, and locations where construction is taking place.

In the authority’s report, after checking 720,000 companies, 3,176 of them were closed for not respecting the environment protection regulations. The China Daily reports that the Chinese government did not meet their aims in conserving energy and controlling pollution, and that the destruction of the environment is threatening the economic development of the country.

The thirty year economic boom of this country has left various consequences as far as environmental pollution is concerned – many rivers are polluted with mainly industrial and agricultural chemicals and sewerage, and the cities are covered in smog and buried in large amounts of rubbish and construction waste, reports the newspaper.
