The discriminating ban on the entire import of sea products from China is unacceptable.
China cannot accept the discriminating ban on four kinds of sea fruit that it exports, mainly to the U.S., and is taking all the necessary steps to solve the problem, said Xinhua Li Changjiang, the head of China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, reports Reuters.
This is the response to the ban on importing Chinese sea products into the U.S. that FDA imposed on Thursday. The ban refers to grown sea fruit, for which Chinese exporters cannot prove the non-existence of hazardous ingredients in the supplies.
The ban was imposed after it had been discovered that safety norms had not been abided while importing other products (e.g. toothpaste).
There are probably individual cases of the export of products that are of substandard quality, but the discriminating ban on of entire export of such products is unacceptable, said Li Changjiang, urging U.S. authorities to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
China has already taken steps to solve the problem of sea fruit export. On the other side, U.S. authorities sent a team of negotiators to China with the aim to solve the problem.
In the last six months, 180 Chinese food processors have been shut down over the bad quality of their products.
However, even though lately Chinese products have been targeted in the U.S. more and more frequently, the cooperation between the two countries in the economic field continues. China offers a lot more than cheap labour. Let us remember that Boeing signed deals with four Chinese suppliers last week, worth 500 million U.S. dollars. Chinese suppliers will manufacture parts for Boeing models 747-8 and 787.
