Croatia allowed to export pork, pork products and shellfish to EU

ZAGREB, Oct 2 (Hina) - The European Commission's Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health in Brussels on Tuesday unanimously adopted decisions allowing Croatia to export, without limitations, fresh pork and pork products and fresh and frozen shellfish to the European Union markets, the Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement.

These decisions, which will come into force on their publication in the Official Journal of the European Union, ended a long process of negotiation in which Croatia had met the necessary criteria to put its products on the EU's common market, the statement said.

The process of compliance with standards for pork exports to the EU began in January 2005 after Croatia stopped vaccinating pigs against classical swine fever, while in the case of shellfish the process began in 2006.
