Croatian Sugar Refineries Alliance

All three Croatian sugar refineries, Viro of Virovitica, Osijek Kandit and Zupanja Sladorana will alliance in a mutual company.

Association of sugar refineries is expected to commence at the beginning of March, that is, with the beginning of sowing. With this alliance, even 150 to 170 million kuna of expenses will be saved per year, which could not be settled before because of sugar refineries` distribution.

Without export, sugar refineries have no chance of recovery

Sugar producers are satisfied with the determined quota of 180,000 tons for sugar export in the EU from January 1. Namely, without export, home sugar industry does not stand a chance for survival in Croatia, and the survival of 3,000 to 4,000 subcontractors would be in question as well. Three Croatian sugar refineries export more than 70 percent of their production to the EU market.

Rescue lies in business alliance

For survival on such a large and significant export market, of crucial importance for the home sugar production is to decrease its now high production prices. Framework for the rescue of sugar refineries` production in Croatia that pays out is in the business alliance of the sugar refineries, the Vjesnik daily writes.
