Gold little changed, down $2

NEW YORK, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Gold prices were little changed in New York Wednesday, as equity markets spent most of the day in negative territory, then closed higher.

On the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold lost $2 to reach $1,657.30 per troy ounce. Silver added 12 cents to hit $33.24 per ounce.

The euro rose to $1.3106 from Tuesday's $1.3037. Against the yen, the dollar rose to 77.70 yen from Tuesday's 77.67 yen.

The British pound fell to $1.5657 from $1.5658. Against the Hong Kong dollar, the greenback was lower at 7.7592 from 7.7597.

The dollar rose to 1.0047 Canadian dollars from 1.0046. The Australian dollar fell to $1.0596 from $1.0597.
